Positive Recession News for Ontario Cottage Rentals

Sand Lake Cottages & Inn has been in  the Ontario Cottage Rentals business for over 10 years.  Danette Evely owner and operator of Sand Lake Cottages & Inn has seen some positive change in the economy since the recession over the past year of 2009-2010.
Ontario tourists that normally spend their time in different provinces and other countries have decided to reduce their travel budget and visit local businesses like private cottage rentals and cottage resorts.  According to Danette a large number of the inquiries are coming from people that don't normally rent cottages but want to try a less expensive holiday close to home.
Most recently Sand Lake Cottages & Inn has experienced customers giving up their all inclusive vacation outside the province but have opted to do shorter vacations close to home.  Danette has also noticed that the ATV business and Romantic Getaways has increased due to the fact that it is a more affordable option then travelling long distances by car or plane.  Tourists don't have to give up their mini vacation or weekly vacation due to the economy when they can just drive a few hours north and still get away. Resorts and Cottage Rentals offer great packages from September to June and during the summer families know that renting a cottage is the most relaxing vacation for the parents and the kids are happy to enjoy simple fun with their parents and friends.

Danette has noticed that since she has owned a Muskoka Cottage Resort that most resorts and cottage rentals don't book the first and last week of the summer and that is understandable because when parents and kids just start their summer vacation they are not ready to go away right away and the weather sometimes is not consistent.  Also at the end of the summer the kids are getting ready for back to school and parents want that last week to prepare.  Danette has noticed that some cottage rentals and cottage resorts may panic thinking we are losing two weeks and the reason is the economy.  This is not necessarily true, yes those dates are harder to book anyway so you may have to offer shorter stays but only for those two weeks of the summer.
Sand Lake Cottages & Inn is asking other cottage rentals businesses to realize that this recession could be a great thing for The Almaguin Highlands and Muskoka during these times, the best thing to do is to advertise what you have to the best of your ability and to keep improving what you have to offer.  Make sure when you get that call or email and quote them a price you explain to them the value they are getting for their money.
